What Now ?!

They ask me, “What was the high point, your favorite place after traveling alone for 300 days?” – There is no one answer or place, because, it was all GREAT. Yet, (closing eyes now) the memory of just me, standing alone in the African desert when everything dropped away, and all there was, was silence, - That was the best. - “Just walk”, he said, “Keep walking until you’re done,” was the command from the guide. Our group set off in different directions, walking on earth so cracked you’d think you were on Mars. There was nothing to see, really, no color, no trees, only rocks and sand, but I swear to you, the feeling in the air had me dropped to my knees in gratitude for so many things – and that conversation, between Her and I, is private - and also, what I remember most of all.

They also say, in the process of being transformed we cannot tell what is happening, like prying something loose and not imagining what’s on the inside. Or passing through doors that we do not see, even as passing through them, leaves me feeling that it all has not penetrated yet, like the foam on my cappuccino – until you stir it all up. It’s time to start stirring Deb.

And then, there’s the other side of slow travel not so many people want to talk about –The coming home part. Reunions and sharing and reality, all exciting stuff that will soon fade. As I write today, I cannot help but wonder, do I fit in here, in this place I now call my old life. Even after reviewing the thousands of pics or the pages of my journals, I itch to be back ‘out there’.

What I know for sure is I have a whole bunch of new dreams and goals.

What I know for sure is there is no way to describe the way my spirit evolved.

What I know for sure, is Simply Lotus is not done, those 300 days were just the prequel.

And before long, I remind myself the most important thing; the only thing that matters is how much you love. Love your life, love ourselves, and share it because we are all connected. Loving one’s self includes creating a life that feels right for you. I like that. I did that. I like that change makes me comfortable, I like the feeling of running towards new things, not away from them. Pushing comfort zones, making new friends from far-away lands. Discovering, sharing, and loving.

As to the Now What? The only thing that feels right is to continue nomadic living, continuing to let my eyes open the world. Realizing that I don’t value attachment to ‘things’ anymore and thriving on the challenges being out there brings, I don’t know any other way.

No more time to tell how
This is the season of what
Now is the time of returning
With thought jewels polished and gleaming
Now is the time past believing
The child has relinquished the reign
Now is the test of the boomerang
Tossed in the night of redeeming....
